For conversing, communication across seas. Okay, not seas but roads and states and massive massive mountains. It's gonna be great. You just wait.

<pete>

this computer lab was empty when i came in here. now i am surrounded by betas. No... crowded by betas. I feel thier prescence sucking the life out of me. Do you know the feeling... the feeling of being around a person who does not understand... so you take a step back and wonder if you really understand? Do i really understand? Let's call it no government... not communism... or we could call it laurenism...that would be fine. And if bears come... we should not feed them our extremeties... we should feed them... me. And then everyone else can enjoy the fun of watching me being eaten by a bear. And the bear can enjoy the gormet delectable treat that is me. And no one has to loose any extremeties. (they don't grow back, you know.)

Adam is right. When we argue about such things, we are arguing only about semantics... the meanings of words. If we define time in a certain way, then it had a beginning. If we define it in another way, it has no beginning. If we define death in a certain way, then i have been dead. If we define it in another way, i have never been dead. But no matter how articulately we define the words, there are still gaps between the knowledge in one mind and the knowledge in another that cannot be bridged with language. Because language is so imperfect, philosophy is rather pointless. No new knowledge can be gained. You can learn to look at things in a different manner, but you can't really learn new things. Nothing in philosophy can be proven. It's really just for fun.

I don't think I agree that time stretches in both directions. Time had to have started at some point. How can something exist if it never started? I think time might move in a circle, well, wait no I don't believe that because even if time repeated itself it would just be like a straight line with several identical sections. And Pete, how do you know you've never been dead? Do you believe that as humans we can perceive of everything that's possible or that exists? Perhaps you did live before as some entity or something. Perhaps you've been reincarnated or something. Perhaps death doesn't really exist because we are as infinite as time is. Of course this is all just speculation and can't be proven but I guess it really doesn't need to be. Because how can you prove that proof exists? It's a never ending question game that can never be solved unless you just go out on a limb and say "I believe this." And I guess all this discussion is semi pointless because we'll never know until we die, and then we won't be able to tell anybody what we learn once we die because we're dead. Seems pretty logical. I feel woozy from thinking about this too hard.
